KaiCell Fibers' business is based on responsible innovations that will enhance the well-being of people and the environment. Responsibility reflects both in our products and our operating practices.
At the design stage of the biorefinery, the essential elements of our responsibility relate to the environmental issues and on the economic impacts of our operations.
The most prominent manifestation of our environmental thinking is the new raw material for textile fiber material called Arbron™, which is produced by a novel method. This method avoids the use of carbon disulfide and overcomes the drawbacks of traditional viscose production to people and to the environment.
What’s more, we invest in the development of other fiber-based bio-innovations in order to reduce the use of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions. The base point for designing the biorefinery is also a sustainable way of using renewable wood raw material, which can be obtained as close as possible.
The economic responsibility relates mainly to the jobs created by the biorefinery and to the cash flows generated by the raw material purchase from the wood procurement area. The biorefinery, which is located in the Kainuu region, increases also indirectly the activity of the area in many ways.
The economic activity is increased further by the BioFutureFactory™, where KaiCell's partners can develop and produce highly refined bioproducts from side streams of pulp production such as tree bark and sugary substances.
Social responsibility we carry reflects on the open discussion with the local community. The location of the biorefinery at the area requires giving information to the residents, municipal decision-makers and authorities. in addition to this, the renovation of the road and rail network is also needed.
